About the Marathi Sentence Checker
Writing grammatically correct Marathi sentences is one of the hardest challenges for learners and even for students preparing for competitive examinations such as MPSC or TET. Unlike spelling errors, sentence-level mistakes — wrong subject-verb agreement, incorrect tense choice, or faulty word order — are invisible to ordinary spell-checkers. This Marathi Sentence Checker is designed specifically to catch those harder, grammar-level errors.
The tool works by scanning your pasted text against a curated list of 25 common sentence-level errors in प्रमाण मराठी (standard Marathi). For each match it finds, it shows you the wrong form, the correct replacement, and a brief grammatical explanation so you understand why the original was wrong — not just that it was wrong. This active learning loop is far more effective than simply receiving a corrected draft.
What kinds of errors does it catch?
The checker covers five major categories of sentence-level error:
- Subject-verb agreement: Marathi verbs must agree with their subject (or, in transitive past sentences, with the object) in person, number, and gender. Errors like मुले खेळतो instead of मुले खेळतात are extremely common.
- Tense-adverb mismatch: Using a past-tense verb with a future time adverb (उद्या) or a present-tense verb with a past adverb (काल) creates an internal contradiction the tool flags immediately.
- Ergative construction errors: In transitive past sentences, the subject takes the agentive suffix -ने/-नी and the verb must agree with the object. Learners frequently make the verb agree with the subject instead.
- Auxiliary verb misuse: Incorrect combinations such as जातो आहे (should be जात आहे) or double auxiliaries like येऊ शकतो आहोत are caught and corrected.
- Word-order errors: Marathi is an SOV (Subject-Object-Verb) language; placing the verb before the object is a common interference error from English.
