Simulate a real Marathi grammar exam with this 15-question mock quiz. Each round delivers 10 randomly selected exam-style questions on समास, संधी, synonyms, antonyms, and error-spotting — just like the questions that appear in MPSC and school-level Marathi paper sections.

About the Marathi Exam Mock Quiz

The Exam Mock Quiz is designed to simulate the type of Marathi grammar questions that appear in MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission) exams, state board school examinations, and competitive grammar assessments. Unlike a general grammar quiz, this tool focuses specifically on the four question categories that regularly appear in formal Marathi exams: समास (compounds), संधी (phonological joining rules), synonym and antonym identification, and error-spotting in Marathi sentences. Practising these question types repeatedly is the most effective way to build both accuracy and speed on the day of the examination.

How to use it

  1. Click Start Quiz to receive a randomly selected set of 10 questions from the 15-question bank.
  2. Read each question as you would during an actual exam — do not spend more than 90 seconds on any single question.
  3. After selecting your answer, read the explanation carefully. For any question you got wrong, note the rule that was tested and review it in the relevant lesson.
  4. Retake the quiz until you consistently score 8 or above. Each round presents a fresh random selection.
  5. Track your improvement over multiple sessions using the Grammar Score Tracker.

Topics covered and how they appear in exams

समास (Samas / Compound words): Exams ask you to identify which type of compound a given word represents — तत्पुरुष, द्वंद्व, कर्मधारय, द्विगु, अव्ययीभाव, or बहुव्रीहि. Questions also ask you to split a compound into its components (विग्रह). See the Samas lesson for full coverage.

संधी (Sandhi / Junction rules): Questions present two words and ask for the correct combined form, or present a combined word and ask which sandhi rule applies. The most commonly tested rules are दीर्घ, गुण, वृद्धी, and यण संधी. See the Sandhi lesson.

Synonyms and antonyms: One of the most frequently tested vocabulary areas. The quiz covers common Marathi academic vocabulary with classical Sanskrit-derived synonyms that appear regularly in formal examinations.

Error-spotting: These questions test gender agreement, number agreement, verb-object agreement in the past tense (ergative alignment), and correct use of case markers. They are particularly challenging because the errors are subtle — a masculine verb form used for a feminine subject, for example.

Tips for exam success

In error-spotting questions, always check verb-object gender agreement first — this is the source of the most common mistakes in formal Marathi writing. For samas questions, identify the head element of the compound before deciding the type. For sandhi questions, memorise the five core vowel-junction rules before the exam. Practise under time pressure: aim to answer each question within 60 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

This quiz is most directly useful for MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission) exams, Maharashtra state board Class 9-12 Marathi grammar sections, and entrance tests for Marathi-medium colleges. The four topic areas — समास, संधी, synonyms/antonyms, and error-spotting — appear in virtually all of these.

Both are types of determinative compounds. In तत्पुरुष समास, the first element stands in a case relationship with the second (for example राजपुत्र = son of the king — genitive relationship). In कर्मधारय समास, the first element is an adjective (or a noun in apposition) that directly modifies the second — for example नीलकमल = blue lotus. See the Samas lesson for all six types.

दीर्घ संधी is the sandhi rule where two identical vowels at a word junction merge into a single long vowel. For example, विद्या + आलय = विद्यालय (आ + आ → आ). See the Sandhi lesson for all the vowel-junction rules with examples.

In Marathi transitive past-tense sentences, the verb agrees in gender and number with the direct object, not the subject. This is called ergative alignment. The subject takes the postposition ने and the verb matches the object. For example, त्याने पुस्तक वाचले — पुस्तक is neuter so the verb is वाचले (neuter). Getting this wrong is one of the most common errors in written Marathi.
